Went to bed and woke up with 75k hits...70k of which are from reddit :)
The main criticism I got from there was why I hacked off a perfectly good keyboard and trackpad. Well, I didn't initially....but both keyboard and trackpad were heavily used (the button on the trackpad was half jammed) and so I decided 'what the heck' and decided to do what I did. It's not useable as a laptop anyway so why not.
:)
Hi Bart,
ReplyDeleteI found your blog while browsing engadget and read through your entire log. It's a fantastic mod! One thing I would like to point out is that Apple will throttle your CPU speed when running without a battery. I'm not sure if this behavior is present on the machines with integrated batteries (since not many people have tried to run without a battery). Could you report on any such throttling behavior?
Here is the Apple knowledge base article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
Thanks!

Hello Bart, I'm following you from the beginning: it is a really good job!!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt needs to be finished, but I'm sure you will do a great one!
It is like the famous EeeKeyBoard, but with an Apple soul and, last but not least, MacOSX!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Sherry - I haven't noticed any. The only issue I've found is that the CPU is throttled if the front LED/IR component isn't attached. From what I could work out this was a thermal issue (I think there is a thermistor next to the power LED).
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using a 85W power adapter as it didn't come with the original 45W one. I have a 45W coming in the mail though so I'll report if there are any speed issues. Thanks for the heads up.
